These little details add flavor to yourblack and white photos
No matter how many teenagers there are, black-and-white photography is always a classic form of showing the world with images. Although the real world is full of vitality and colorful, black-and-white photography is often better at highlighting emotions.
In the early days of photography, limited by technology, photographers could only shoot black and white. To obtain color, they needed to dye in the darkroom until the birth of color film. Now, we often need to go through post-production to turn the photos into black and white. Although in most people's impression, the so-called black and white photography is simple to make good color saturation reduce to zero, but the real only black and white photography is never so simple, if you don't plan before filming, not observation and analysis on the scene, even after the conversion of black and white photos will not be too. So what should you watch out for when shooting in black and white?
1. Search the light source
When taking black-and-white photos, the first thing to worry about is where the light comes from. No color can be seen in black and white photos, only the brightness of black, white and gray changes, and the change of light will greatly affect the change of gray. As a result, light often becomes the subject or one of the main features of a black-and-white photograph.
When taking photos outdoors, you must first observe the direction of sunlight, analyze the characteristics of light, and figure out how to use light to create image content. Sometimes, light itself is impressive enough, and light as the main body of the picture is enough.
2. Create comparisons
In order to attract viewers, contrast is undoubtedly the best way. Just like anything in life, contrast is a catalyst for emotions, which enables viewers to naturally substitute their emotions into the contrast created by the photographer. For excellent black-and-white photos, we should know how to use contrast.
Contrast can take many forms, such as the contrast between black and white, the contrast between light and dark, the contrast between picture contents, and even the contrast between picture emotions. Any kind of contrast, if properly used, will definitely add points to your works.
3. White space and open composition
Not only in minimalist photography, but also in black and white photography, a large number of laws of whitespace can be applied. The simplest example is the use of shadow to hide the content of the picture. Through the emergence of the content on the surface, the viewer's association is triggered, so as to enhance the atmosphere of the picture and the expression of the story. In this way, the viewer has more space to complete the picture with his imagination.
4. Guide line and texture
In black-and-white photography, more emphasis is placed on geometry and composition. Due to the separation of colors, we pay more attention to the content of the picture, so our eyes will be more likely to notice lines and other elements. Any simple defect will easily lead us to shift our attention from the main body. Texture can make a photo more three-dimensional, or at least increase the level of the photo, so that we can get closer to the content of the photo. Texture can exist in any place, the collage of wall brick, and the gap of the floor, can exist as the element of texture.
5.Look for shadows
Sometimes, shadows can also be said to be stories. The best time to find interesting shadows is in the early morning or evening. At this time, the sun tilts and the shadows will be stretched. While trying to capture shadows, we can focus on the trees or other objects in front of the walls or other buildings and then observe to find suitable shadows.
