Eight main points of night shot photography

Through the slow pace and subtle observation, the decisive moment can be faithfully recorded with the camera in hand, canvas prints which is the essence of capturing. It was only discussed in the past, mostly in the daytime. Isn't there anything suitable for shooting at night? No, just use the high sensitivity of the digital camera, use the light source on the street, and add some creative ingenuity to capture good photography at night. Here are eight key points to break down your ideas.

01. High sensitivity + possibility of follow - up

Follow - up photography is basically a handheld photography, canvas photo prints online and with a tripod carefully confirm the image before shooting a very different way. Most foreign countries will be called "Candid Photography", Candid itself with Candid, Candid meaning, just on behalf of this direct use of scene light to shoot photos.

In Chinese, large photo the word "follow along" means freedom. Therefore, everyone has different opinions on this kind of shooting skills and the shooting methods are quite diverse. Although the scope of the shoot is quite broad, but the core concept is the same that is to capture the scene of your heart.

Again, how to let the viewer experience the same moving through the picture is also the focus of the shooting. In order to be more in line with the spirit of the follow - up, of course, avoid retouching the photo after the fact.

Even if you want to use digital image effects such as artistic filters, please match them directly in the moment of shooting. For this type of shooting, the possibility of high sensitivity is to make the scene and image representation of light shooting more diverse and free.

02. The charm and style of night shot

The glamour of taking photos at night is all kinds of bustling and strange scenes. The street emerges in the dim light, always looking forward. Although sometimes I am attracted by the beautiful and bright lighting, from the point of view of following photos, various flourishing and strange scenes are actually more attractive. With improved sensitivity, however, a digital camera can take sharp, sharp pictures even in dark conditions. Although the picture quality alone is indeed quite beautiful, but for the night shoot, it is less a unique style charm, this part depends on the photographer's technology to add appropriately.

For example, when presenting the aesthetic feeling of lighting, we will deliberately match the soft focus mirror to make the image appear atomization phenomenon. It is also the same with shooting at night, when the image is blurred by vibration; it can show a sense of prosperity. Therefore, even if we use the high sensitivity setting, we will also deliberately choose the shutter speed of the figure with slightly blurred vibration. As for the odd feature, it will be presented through the change of color. As mentioned above, the focus of night follow - up photography is the performance skills of prosperity and oddity.

3. Control the fuzzy vibration of the character

I think the portrait is a little vibratory and fuzzy, and it has a more nocturnal atmosphere. The reason there is such a concept, in fact, is from a certain shooting experience. I used a high-sensitivity camera with a large aperture lens to shoot people on street corners at night. Because the shutter speed is fast, so characters present static images, but as you progress through the filming, heart always have a say not harmonious feeling, in my slow shutter speed, let people after a bit fuzzy, the overall image looks to match their inner expectation and imagination of night around the corner.

The reason why there is such a feeling is that when the naked eye is watching the scenery, if the amount of light in the scene is weaker than that in the daytime, the movements of the characters are easy to contain residual shadows. Since then, I've been shooting street corners at night at a slightly lower shutter speed. Basically, the shutter speed can be set to 1/10 of a second, which allows you to see clearly the feet of the character while walking, but also has a sense of vibration and blur, which can be fine-tuned to match the movements of the character.

04. Night follow up with pan focus

When I was constantly searching for strange night-time shooting works, I came across OLYMPUS Body Cap Lens bcl-1580, a fixed-focus Lens with a 15mm focal length and a fixed aperture of F8, which is quite unique in terms of specifications. Since it was originally an m4/3 camera product, it is equivalent to a 30mm viewing Angle when converted to 35mm. In addition, it is not equipped with autofocus function. It must be manually adjusted by using the lever to focus, which takes time to understand and get used to.

In order to be able to use the depth of field of F8 pan focus photography, there is a scale on the operating lever, the operation is quite smooth. Since the purchase of this lens, I have started my life of pan-focus shooting at night.

At night, when the amount of light is lower than that of the day, the aperture can be shrunk to the level of pan focus photography; all depends on the high sensitivity of the camera to improve. Although it is high sensitivity, considering the need to make the image of the character a little fuzzy vibration, night shot only with thousands of ISO Settings, do not need to use tens of thousands of ISO ultra-high sensitivity, you have the opportunity to try to see.

Eight main points of night shot photography

5. Pan-focus and blind shooting skills

The so-called pan-focus is a shooting technique that USES the efficiency of depth of field to make the whole image of the picture in focus. Using a wide-angle lens, zoom the aperture above F8 and lock the subject at a distance of about 2 to 3 meters to take a picture that even the background is in focus.

When the sensitivity is fixed, the pan focus technique requires a certain amount of light, and therefore causes the shutter speed to slow down. Although pan-focus photography is a common shooting technique in landscape photography, even casual shooting is mostly selected in the bright daytime. Due to the importance of shutter timing, it is sometimes combined with blind shooting techniques for wide-angle lenses.

For me, a blind pan shot on a street corner looks like a candid shot, so I rarely follow along in this way. Even this time, I did not take photos until I had taken the camera.

So, even with a good anti-vibration feature, I wanted to set the shutter speed at which the image would easily vibrate and blur, and hold the camera with both hands before shooting.

06. Handheld photography with multiple exposures at night

With the development of night shot technology, this kind of shooting technology with multiple exposure function emerged, which was mainly used to show the variability of night scene. One of the basic techniques of multi-exposure photography is to use lighting instead of soft focus to overlap a deliberately out-of-focus image with a sharp, sharp image in focus.

Although the same technique has been used in tripod photography since the days of negative cameras, it is now boldly being tried in the handheld. While it may seem cool to pursue the possibility of hand-held photography, the initial opportunity to do so was due to the emergency approach that had to be taken without a tripod on hand.

The most important thing is not to deviate too much from the composition when shooting focus and out-of-focus images. If there is too much difference between the two compositions, the clear and blurred images will not align, which makes the whole picture look out of harmony. The trick, as for shooting, is to actually fix the camera with a sense of relaxation. If just begin to try, might as well use the object such as baluster to fix the body or camera.

07. High-tone pan-focus shooting (fish-eye lens + dusk shooting)

Fish-eye lenses are roughly divided into two types: diagonal fish-eye lenses, which have a 180 degree Angle of view and can take strongly curved images, and circular fish-eye lenses, which can take circular images.

This time OLYMPUS Fisheye Body Cap lensbcl-0980 with lens Angle of 140 °. It is the same product as the Body Cap Lens introduced in the previous chapter. It has no autofocus function and the aperture is fixed on F8, which can also be used to take pan focus photos. The most popular aspect of the fish-eye lens is its unique image depiction effect, and the view Angle is quite broad, which allows many objects to be photographed together. Therefore, more attention must be paid to the arrangement of the picture. Here I personally use a high tone technique with special effects treatment.

High tone is the way to make the image brighter by adjusting the exposure to +1. The focus of shooting is to grasp the time when the theme of the composition looks most striking in the picture, and pay attention to the light state. If a +1 exposure is not enough, go ahead and use a +2 exposure.

08. The soft charm of dusk with the shoot

For normal high-tone photos, even if the aperture is fixed at F8, it is not necessary to use the high-sensitivity setting. The photographs used here were taken in the late afternoon, in the evening with a bit of soft light, in order to be able to take the photos with a high tone at will with the handheld photography, need to use high sensitivity as an aid.

The evening light is weak; it is a period that lets a person feel very calm and peaceful. If take the corner that does not have a person, fall in the illuminate of downy light, can let image bring a person carefree atmosphere. And compared to the passage of the evening, people rushing home, and people excited about where they're going next, sometimes seem to move faster than during the day.

If you simply take photos of the scenery in front of you, compared with the unique soft charm displayed in the evening, the contrast is weak and the image is not sharp enough. In fact, when shooting, may as well as sample photos add variability, rectangle canvas let the image jump the sense of reality, it should be more in line with the evening this time with a unique atmosphere. Pick up your camera and try these techniques.
