8 tips to shoot an abstract landscape
As a landscape photographer, I love the spectacular view from a wide Angle lens. But sometimes, small and delicate scenes can be just as impressive. In this article, I'm going to share some tips on minimalism and abstract landscape photography in the hope of giving you some inspiration.
Look down
Often, we tend to look ahead and see the bigger picture. But most of the time beauty is right under our feet. Bend down and look down occasionally. You will find all kinds of interesting things, such as the textures and lines of stones, the patterns of plants, the contrast of light and shade and so on. Many interesting abstract shapes can be found on the ground.
Flowing lines
When finding the right subject, find the lines and try to balance them in your image. A line that crosses the frame from the corner usually works well. Smooth lines also give a good visual effect.
Color and contrast
The contrast of two or more strong colors, or the contrast of light and shade, is often used in landscape or street photography, which can quickly brighten people's eyes and can be easily found in nature or cities.
Subtract from the environment
Not to be confused with "macro" or "close up" here. What is referred to here is to frame some rhythmic patterns with long focal segments from a relatively large and complex scene.
Minimalism and white space
Look for images in large scenes that can be used to represent white space and minimalism. In such a picture, the proportion of the main body is very small, and a lot of space is filled with solid color. Instead of using only white as the background color, you can select the color that occupies the main proportion in the space.
The beach is the source of abstract photography
Sand on the beach, washed by the sea or eroded by the wind, usually has a very interesting texture. Especially at low tide, you can easily find interesting patterns on the beach. They sometimes look like antennas, or even sci-fi images.
Water,
Water itself is an incredible presence. Like water hurtling down a waterfall, or even just from your faucet! Water flows at different intensities can create beautiful patterns. When shooting water flow, try shooting with a very fast shutter speed (such as 1/1000 or faster). You'll find you have lots of interesting shots!
But it's not just water. Ripples in the ocean can also produce interesting pictures, depending on the trend of the waves and the Angle of the light. Similarly, when water freezes into ice, some interesting natural textures can be found on the ice, but it is important to be careful when photographing and to be careful of falling through the ice.
Don't be afraid of harsh light
The harsh light of the day is usually not very good for traditional landscape photography, which tends to make the landscape seem stiff. But it's great for abstract photography. By looking for shapes and lines in high-contrast shadows, you can sometimes create interesting abstract visions.
