7 skills of mobile phone photography
The mobile phone is a necessary living tool for every modern person. It has changed the way we interact with the world, especially photography. Change also means innovation, and while mobile photography is getting better, many camera users will still resist the idea that using a camera is the real thing. The fact that cameras are getting smaller, smarter and more integrated into our lives is not a bad thing but a trend. Pick up your phone and record the world from a new Angle.
1. Try to keep your photos simple
As jobs once said, simplicity is the ultimate. You are often told that photography should be subtracted. Indeed, this is the law of photography. Due to the characteristics of mobile phone lens, the scene is mainly wide Angle and deep field, which cannot compress perspective and blur the background (fortunately, dual-lens mobile phone provides us with a new choice). Therefore, the first element of "concise picture" should be adopted.
Make use of negative space more often (leave white), abandon redundant element, can highlight your composition key instead. Due to the size of the mobile phone screen, minimalism is very popular on social media. If you follow IG, you will see a lot of cool photography works. Keep it simple, and it may be your style.
2. Find a different perspective
The convenience of small cell phones has totally surpassed that of cameras. We can take whatever we want and shoot whatever we want. Traditional Canon and Nikon SLR users are more accustomed to optical viewing (with the exception of SONY's microphones), so there are a lot of inconvenience when shooting at a low Angle, but there is no such trouble at all for the instant view of the mobile screen. Keep your phone down and compose from a new Angle.
3.shoot macro
The focus is often closer than the camera lens, and while the magnification is not as good as the professional macro lens, it is enough for daily macro. While still life is being photographed, amazing details, colors, and textures can be captured using microscopes. Micro spacing helps us jump out of our everyday perspective, and the world is hidden in detail. It is not only suitable for plants, but also very effective in photographing people and pets.
4.some advanced silhouettes
Because the phone's sensor is limited and its tolerance is lower, it's a blessing in disguise when the light and dark contrast is high, because it's easier to take a silhouette! Click on the phone screen to select the light measurement (high light measurement). If the contrast is insufficient, continue to slide the screen to lower the exposure until a silhouette is formed. The key to shooting silhouette is to keep it simple and fun. Because the elements of the picture become silhouette, and the solid is abstracted into plane, more consideration should be given to the combination of geometric elements when shooting. The best time to take a silhouette is at sunrise, sunset, and at night when there is a strong light source. Know you can't get up in the morning, so go out and shoot at dusk. Otherwise, it's a good idea to look for billboards and Windows at night.
5.find symmetry
Did you notice that all the examples in front of us are 1:1? Although the mobile phone also has the format of 4:3 and 16:9, more and more people start to use 1:1 because of the influence of IG. 1:1 is the most stable painting, and since it is stable, it is indispensable for central composition and symmetrical composition.
6.grasp the far side of the picture
As mentioned above, due to the limitation of cell phone lens, the scene is usually "wide Angle and deep field". Although limited, making full use of this can also strengthen the depth of depth when photographing landscapes. The easiest way to represent the depth of a three-dimensional space is to use lines. Roads, railways and rivers are good guides to add perspective to your composition. The second way to create depth is to match the front and back. Find some interesting elements in the foreground to match the perspective, and the layers will naturally appear.
The third way to create the depth of the picture is to build the frame by the elements of the picture. For example, shoot through Windows, archways, arch Bridges, even hanging branches, and when you guide the viewer through an element of the image, the depth of the front and the back is there.
7.connect the elements in the picture
The hardware of mobile phone still cannot compare with SLR, so we should not rely on technical means (virtualization and perspective), but make an article on the content. If there are elements in the picture that can interact with each other, it will greatly enhance the interest of the work. The way of interaction can be the relevance of the content and arouse the imagination of the audience. It can also be an echo of the composition.
Whether it's a camera or a phone, it's just a photo tool, and your focus should be on the content, not the tools. Develop an eye for life and capture it with your photographic eye.
